Experience as a work-study student at SNCF Connect & Tech

Training the professionals of the future means offering them much more than just a line on their CVs. At SNCF Connect & Tech, work-study programmes involve hands-on work, as part of a team, and with a real ambition to pass on knowledge.

Because training talent also means helping people gain experience, SNCF Connect & Tech makes work-study more than just a springboard: it's a real human-centric and professional adventure. The rewards are practical assignments, personalised support... and sometimes, a permanent contract. Here's a look at two talented people who illustrate this dynamic: Lyes, a former work-study student who is now a junior Java developer, and Thetys, a work-study student employed in user experience design.

A welcoming company, every step of the way

More than a hundred students join the SNCF Connect & Tech teams every year, on internships or work-study programmes. And from day one, everything is designed to help them flourish and contribute to high-impact projects. "We want to offer much more than an internship or work-study programme... We want to offer a real learning experience. By creating regular opportunities for discussion, we encourage listening, contact and, above all, progress," explains Sarah Igoulalène, School Relations Manager.

  • A dedicated integration programme: half-day onboarding sessions, 'e-coffee' sessions every two months, a festive end-of-year event... And, from the start of the 2025 academic year, an even more immersive onboarding programme and the launch of 'Meet My Job' to promote students' roles to the entire community.
  • Interpersonal and technical support: immersed in expert teams, work-study students rapidly acquire new skills. They also get a behind-the-scenes look at the digital products used daily by millions of travellers.
  • A vibrant student community: the Connect & Tech Academy, run by our employees, offers opportunities for discussion, skills development and social interaction.

A learning company, where you really grow

We're here to learn a profession but, above all, we learn to do it meaningfully, with rigour and enthusiasm. This is what Lyes experienced during his two-year work-study programme: robust skills development, which naturally led him to a permanent contract.

"Values that make you want to continue the adventure.”

"I worked on the Data Repository project, an essential building block for making SNCF Gares & Connexions APIs available. I worked hands-on with the code, cloud infrastructure, and documentation... It was real-life experience, stimulating and instructive!

Some of the highlights of my work-study placement included participating in a hackathon on the Trainmate project, being present at tech fairs, and taking part in several ongoing technical training courses. What I appreciated most was the team atmosphere. Kindness, agility, mutual support... These values carried me along and made me want to stay. Signing a permanent contract was a no-brainer."

And Lyes is not the only one. Every year, 1 in 4 students continues working at SNCF Connect & Tech on a permanent contract.

An innovative company, shaping future mobility

At SNCF Connect & Tech, work-study programmes are also a gateway to meaningful careers. Thetys, currently a student in the Design department, joined the company to combine a passion for digital technology with a commitment to more streamlined, inclusive mobility.

"Developing professional and interpersonal skills.”

"I've been interested in the mobility sector for a long time. Here, I work on strategic design projects that have a real impact on the user experience. My missions involve collaborating with a wide variety of professions, participating in product discovery phases, and leading ideation workshops.

My biggest highlight has been a fast-paced design sprint with ten experts to imagine a new digital experience. I learned to express my ideas clearly, to formalise complex ideas... It's a skill I'm developing here daily."

In 2025, SNCF Connect & Tech will be offering 70 new work-study placements in fields as varied as development, design, data, customer relations and digital marketing. This is your chance to take part in a practical, useful work-study programme... and maybe even begin the first chapter of a great career!
