My Retrainspective 2025: an edition to reveal the passenger in each of us
For the 2025 edition of Ma Rétrainspective, the teams have put ultra-customisation at the heart of the system. From December 4, SNCF Connect will offer users a colorful, interactive assessment of their train journeys over the past year. Early risers, night owls, professional passengers, etc., among the 10 million eligible SNCF Connect users 1, more than 800,000 combinations of assessments are possible. Travel data is thus transformed into real passenger portraits, so that each Rétrainspective is unique.

My Retrainspective: a creative edition to thank and raise awareness of the impact of our modes of transport
Designed in collaboration with the Clutch agency, this 2025 edition is set in a visual universe redesigned by French illustrator Maria do Rosário Frade. Her cheerful style, dynamic lines and vibrant colors lend her works a playful, benevolent and subtly funny atmosphere. Users of the SNCF Connect service, who receive their Rétrainspective, will discover an animated avatar imagined from all their travel data. At each stage, the report also reveals stylized accessories, reflecting their journeys over the year: a suitcase for frequent travelers, a mug for early risers, or winged sandals for those who have covered more than 5,000 km.
« Year after year, the Rétrainspective has become an event eagerly awaited by our users, » explains David Nedzela, Customer Manager at SNCF Connect & Tech.
« This year, we've opted for ultra-customisation. Designed to ensure that the travel experience via SNCF Connect reflects the personality of each eligible user, this edition of My Retrainspective is no longer just about journeys. It takes in the field of lifestyles and identities on the move, while continuing to inform about the reduced carbon impact of choosing the train over the car. »
Fun facts and key insights
Ma Rétrainspective: a fun way to decode train mobility
Thanks to data from Ma Rétrainspective, it's possible to take stock of the relationship between the French and the train:
- Carbon impact: by choosing to travel by train and not by car, SNCF Connect users have helped avoid the emission of over 7.6 million tonnes of CO2e, equivalent to the average annual carbon footprint of 800,000 French people in 2025.
- Travel rhythms: 28% of SNCF Connect users tend to be morning commuters, leaving mostly between 5 a.m. and noon, while 19% travel mostly after 5 p.m. over the past year.
- Kilometers traveled: all together, SNCF Connect users have traveled the equivalent of 1.3 million times around the Earth (4075 km), and 20% of them alone have traveled the equivalent of more than once around the Earth in 2025.
- The flagship destinations of 2025: Tournai and Turin have blown away all the counters, with a growth rate of +480% and + 218% of journeys compared to 2024.
- Short trips (less than 50 km): up 8%, illustrating the growing importance of everyday trips using less carbon-intensive modes of transport.
My Retrainspective: a collective project combining data, design and eco-design
Behind this ultra-personalized assessment lies a veritable collective mechanism. More than 200 million train tickets are analyzed to build a coherent user journey for each profile. The more a user has traveled, the more his or her Retrainspective reveals itself, unlocking new accessories and significant data along the way. Data scientists, UX designers, developers, CRM managers, brand and branding teams, etc., all worked together to bring this project, the avatars and their accessories to life, thanks to a system that directly links real data to animations.
As well as being a personalized retrospective of the past year, Ma Rétrainspective is also an educational tool to encourage the choice of less carbon-intensive mobility. Its virality and sharing by users contribute to modal shift, as a form of "digital carbon investment" aimed at reducing the environmental footprint elsewhere. That's why the teams have taken great care to limit the impact of this project: lightening its weight to reduce consumption and improve performance, and guaranteeing its accessibility, whether on the app or on the web, with or without a mouse, and with or without a screen reader. For example, the use of Rive, a vector animation technology, greatly reduces the weight of media.
The experience also benefits from a caching system, which means that the balance sheet is loaded only once, thus limiting data consumption and enhancing sobriety.
