For Élodie Gendron, Head of New Mobility at SNCF Connect & Tech, enabling passengers to buy their urban transport tickets from the SNCF Connect app means providing them with a solution from the first to the last kilometre, while supporting the development of public transport. The rewards are smoother, more accessible mobility.

An enriched travel experience, from departure to arrival

"It's a situation that all passengers have faced at least once when arriving at a station: which bus, tram or metro line should I take to reach my final destination? Where do I buy my ticket? Where can I find timetables?"

A subject that Élodie Gendron and her teams have taken up by developing an offer for occasional travellers.

"The idea is to accompany our customers not only on their long-distance journeys, but also on the first and last kilometre, by encouraging the use of local public transport networks," explains Élodie Gendron.

A complementary solution to local offerings

With this in mind, the SNCF Connect app includes the sale of urban transport tickets for some thirty urban areas in France.

“Occasional travellers aren't always familiar with local networks and need easy, seamless access to public transport. Thanks to SNCF Connect, they can buy their ticket online, store it on their smartphone and validate it directly as they enter the public transport network.”

By simplifying access to local networks, SNCF Connect also contributes to a more streamlined station experience. "Queues in front of ticket vending machines are a real issue. By encouraging people to buy tickets online before they travel, the platform helps to relieve congestion at these physical points of sale."

Smooth integration thanks to a strategic partnership

The integration of urban transport tickets into SNCF Connect is based on a partnership with Airweb, a key player that incorporates the offers of numerous local transport networks.
This partnership facilitates the implementation of the solution for local authorities by reducing technical costs.
"The French mobility orientation law (LOM) offers new opportunities for mobility authorities to further digitalise the distribution of urban transport tickets, and SNCF Connect can contribute to this goal to make life easier for customers," explains Élodie Gendron.

Thanks to our Airweb / SNCF Connect & Tech partnership, urban areas that do not have a mobile app can easily digitalise their ticket sales. Similarly, urban areas that already have an app can expand the digital distribution of their offer on SNCF Connect, and thus acquire new, more occasional users.

A strategic tool for sustainable mobility

By offering a complete solution, SNCF Connect plays a key role in the development of sustainable mobility. "One of our objectives is to encourage travellers to adopt public transport thanks to a simplified experience. We want to remove disincentives by providing a smooth, accessible and intuitive solution."

Another advantage is promoting the transport network offer to as many people as possible. A number of communication tools have been put in place to increase their visibility:

  • prominence on the home page;
  • integration into route searches;
  • push notifications.

By integrating the entire travel process, SNCF Connect is positioning itself as a global player in mobility, not just a train ticket provider.

According to Élodie Gendron, "this development will enable us to forge lasting relationships with local authorities and local operators, strengthening the platform's impact on regional accessibility. We have a real opportunity to transform mobility in France by facilitating access to public transport and making life easier for travellers.

Our next objective is to expand our network and eventually cover the whole country. Join us!"
